Why are some verrucae more stubborn than others?
This is a question we get asked a lot. A verruca is a type of the HPV virus, there are 7 main types which cause verrucae and warts, they all present in different ways, and some can be more challenging to resolve than others. The response to various treatments can depend on many variables such as the patient’s age, the duration of time it has been present and where it is on the body.
The statistics tell us if the verrucae have been present for over 6 months, the resolution rate without treatment is as low as 8%.
I have been treating with acid for months, but the verrucae are still present…
Many treatments, such as acids which cause chemical destruction of the verrucae cells, along with cryotherapy which kill the cells through freezing them, have very low-resolution rates. New research has shown us the key to a successful resolution is to initiate an immune response.
What is Swift Therapy?
Swift Therapy is a new technology, developed in the UK, which is used for the general treatment of skin lesions in podiatry and dermatology. Swift uses microwaves energy which is delivered through a special probe applied to the skin on the affected area (as shown below).
Who cannot have Swift Treatment?
Swift is not recommended for use on diabetic patients, patients with implanted devices or electrodes, or for use close to metal objects (e.g. metal foot implants or jewellery).
